I won't say much on the picture except to say I expanded on a joke I over heard from 2 co-workers.

The Substitute Teacher
This is the story where the students are obviously smarter than the teacher. I sketched the boy first then soon afterwards I had him flapping. Right after than it dawned on me that he was go try to teach the penguins to fly. I like it because neither the boy or the penguins can fly.

Happy Mother's Day
The situation on both pictures is that the plant starts very small, and the giver works and cultivates a huge gift for the mom.

The Doll Is Too Scared To Go Back To Her House
This is one of those last minute drawings. My intent was to to make a joke about Highway Safety Cones. I have a long commute in the morning, and road repair crews are making road modifications to my road. To warn the drivers of the upcoming road construction the state highways administration put up warning signs along with a cartoon caricature of a safety cone. My first thought were the people who wear a mattress costumes and wave to the cars in traffic trying to lure customers in to the store. Then I thought of the pecking order of costume mascots. The guy wearing the highway safety cone has to be on the bottom of the list. Then for giggles I "googled" Highway Safety cones.
To my surprise there is really a Highway Safety Cone mascot.
And finally before I end for the evening, there is the weather staple; Bread, Milk and Toilet Paper. Everyone's must have list before any hurricane or snow storm.Sunday, May 5, 2013
And The Secret Ingredient Is ....
I have to tell you, my favorite cable channel is the Food/Cooking network. The irony of course, is that I am playing games with the show title, "Top Chef" which is on the Bravo network. The show doesn't even use secret ingredients.
I had fun with this drawing. I spent the entire afternoon thinking on the wording. The pencil sketch and inking took about an hour. I was temped in skipping tonight's drawing, so I was very pleased that it turned out so well.
I also discovered this evening that humorless people are far more useful to improving ones own artwork than just getting a "That a boy" pat on the back. Although its difficult to accept a lack of a laugh, the usefulness to have someone point out the flaws in the drawings is extremely helpful.

Walking the Dogs
This is one picture I didn't want to draw, but I loved the idea. I have a real difficult time drawing adults, and I didn't have a lot of practice drawing three headed dogs either. I wasn't even sure which emotions to give the devil when his dogs got tangled around the pole, so naturally I gave him, "Here it goes again" look. I usually walk dogs while walking with a cup of coffee, and I get dogs tangled around lamp posts and telephone poles all the time.
